Kingston to Ottawa

Leaving Kingston we cycled 100km northwards to Smiths Falls followed by 79km to Ottawa. For two days the sun and thunderstorms swapped places every few hours. We had been told by another Canadian cyclist that we will see a lot more rain from Eastern Ontario and so far that has been true.

The rain doesn't last long but when it rains it's proper rain. None of that misty stuff we usually experience in Scotland. There are few places to shelter on the road and we obviously avoid trees when there is lightning. Anyway, we have found sheltering under trees is good for two minutes - thereafter you're better sheltering under a sieve.

'Come in she said I'll give you shelter from the storm'

We reached Ottawa and to celebrate reaching the capital city I treated Susan to a great night out sitting at the bar on bar stools drinking beer and eating food. I think she loved it but just didn't like to say.

The following day we visited Parlaiment Hill.

Yes we do get our cycle helmets off sometimes :)

  1. Hi good to see you both back in the saddle and eating up the "Klicks" again. That 2 weeks in Florida must have been a real bitch! Gorgeous day in Ottawa, was very similar the weekend we visited and it was moving with cyclists of every age. Hope you enjoyed it, we thought it well worth the trip there, very friendly and laid back for a capital city. Montreal and Quebec City were both fab so hope you enjoy them both and Quebec Province's reputation for being bike-friendly turns out to be accurate. Some fantastic views any time you are near the St Lawrence en-rout and lots of smart little towns and villages. Keep up the pace and take care. Willie and Margaret

    1. Yes we really enjoyed Ottawa and wished we could have spent more time there. Same with Montreal. However, after having that two weeks off we have to keep moving or the old legs will stop working altogether. Each Province of Canada is different and we are having a great time in Quebec so far. Hope you and Margaret are keeping up with those long walks.
